At Warley Town School, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child is welcomed, valued and supported to thrive. Mrs Hopkins is our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). She holds the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCO) qualification and works closely with pupils, families and external agencies to ensure children receive the support they need.

Widgit
We recognise that communication is fundamental to learning, relationships and wellbeing. We are committed to creating a communication-friendly environment that supports all learners.
We use Widgit symbols throughout school to support understanding, communication and independence. Widgit symbols can be seen in:
- Classroom resources
- Visual timetables
- Displays
- Signage around school
- Social stories
Makaton
We are beginning to use some Makaton signs.
Makaton uses signs and symbols alongside spoken language to help children express themselves, understand others and develop confidence in communication.
Makaton benefits all children by supporting:
- Listening and attention
- Language development
- Social interaction and friendships
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Inclusion and participation
Each week, we introduce a Sign of the Week in assembly to encourage the whole school community to learn and use key signs.

Zones of Regulation
At Warley Town, we understand that children learn best when they feel safe, supported and understood.
The Zones of Regulation help children develop self-awareness, emotional vocabulary and strategies to manage their feelings. Children and staff use a common language to discuss emotions and regulation throughout the school day.
The approach is supported through:

- Assemblies
- Story books and discussions
- Small-group and individual support
- Class-based Zones of Regulation toolkits
